At least 7 injured in CT home explosion, collapse

A Vernon, Connecticut, woman faces charges after police say she squirted lighter fluid at a group of neighbors that included a child and a pregnant woman.

All seven were taken to the hospital for treatment, according to officials, one of the victims is a young boy under the age of 10.

CT authorities say an explosion has destroyed a house in the north-central part of the state, and officials say seven people, including a young child, have been taken to hospitals.

On Tuesday, August 2, police were called to apartments on Union Street around 9:40 p.m. The conditions of the four people brought to the hospital haven’t been disclosed.

A 7-year-old boy was reported, in serious condition with significant injuries, and a 15-year-old girl was also hospitalized, WFSB reported.

At least four people were rescued after the explosion, and an additional three were outside the home first responders arrived. A 15-year-old girl was also taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

Ambulances and crews from emergency departments from surrounding towns responded to the scene as well, along with Connecticut State Police. Eversource and the gas company are also on the scene.

The local authorities initiated investigation, the cause of the explosion was not immediately known.

At least one other person who lives at the home was confirmed to be out when the explosion occurred.

The house is believed to have been a multi-family home.
