AT&T Bolsters U-Verse Standard Plan Data Caps, Gigapower Users Go Unlimited
For customers rocking AT&T’s 1Gbps Internet service, AT&T is removing the data cap altogether, giving them unlimited data consumption. Beginning August 21st, all U-verse customers on speed tiers up to (and including) 300Mbps will receive the higher monthly allowance. Unlimited internet usage is also available to customers paying for both U-verse internet and either DirecTV or U-verse TV on the same bill. Most households probably don’t approach 1TB of data, and it’s a good move on AT&T’s part as we start to rely more on data-hungry apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu and more.

AT&T customers will receive a notification about the change via their monthly statement and email.
It’s truly only been a twosome of months since the last time AT&T simplified their data cap rule, back in March. Otherwise, AT&T tacks on 50GB chunks at $10 each when you go over your limit.
Customers will not be overcharged during the first month they break the data cap.
Earlier a 1TB cap was only for customers with speeds from 100Mbps to 1Gbps.
As before, customers who exceed the cap will be automatically charged $10 for each additional 50GB allotment. It’s also almost twice the 600GB data cap that now applies to people on tiers between 12Mbps and 75Mbps. Choy said that customers can switch to the unlimited plan anytime they want, even during the middle of a billing cycle.
AT&T has been enforcing data caps on DSL users for years but only began enforcement of caps on its faster U-verse service in May this year.
However, AT&T subscribers who are still on DSL need to limit their traffic at 150 GB per month.

Meanwhile, customers on GigaPower, AT&T’s fiber-based offering with speeds up to 1 Gbps, will be moving to an unlimited data plan. Other U-verse data represents still have the decision to purchase an unrestricted plan for an added $30 per monthIf it appears like this is the period when every ISP out there is messing with its data caps, well, that’s because it is.
