AT&T, DirecTV roll out all-in-one TV, wireless bundle

Consumers are used to cable company representatives trying to coax them into home phone service along with the purchase of home TV service. An app called DirecTV would deliver the service of walk out and watch to users for viewing TV on their compatible mobile devices after leaving the store.

In essence, AT&T has announced to offer four wireless accounts having TV service and 10GB of sharable data, with capabilities of digital and HD video recording for four different TV sets.

Brad Bentley, AT&T’s chief marketing officer for Entertainment and Services, said that the move marks the first of many to come.

AT&T is wasting no time extending the benefits of its DirecTV acquisition to consumers”, said Roger Entner, principal analyst at Recon Analytics.

As some analysts see it, this represents an important beginning, however only the start.

He says companies are less inclined to offer better prices or service when it’s troublesome for you to choose another option. “It took an acquisition by AT&T to make this dream a reality”. He wouldn’t provide details on those plans.

Other than the $10-a-month discount, the promised savings aren’t unusual. AT&T claims that this bundle will save customers up to $600 a year while providing an unparalleled experience. All these will cost $200 a month in the first year.

Notably, DIRECTV enjoys strong presence in both the U.S. and Latin America which will not only help the company attract customers but will also drive its revenues higher in the coming quarters.

In addition to this, the wireless giant said it will grant bill credit worth $300 to its customers on purchasing a smartphone from AT&T.

In the wireless industry, deals have become routine as carriers fight for each other’s customers, given that most Americans already have cellphones.

Those who will sign up for the package will start paying rates of $200 a month, which includes a basic phone plan with 10 GB shared data among four lines for $160, TV for $50 and a $10 discount off the bill for signing the plan. The companies’ executives called attention to some of the major highlights of the merger, which included the creation of new bundles offering broadband, wireless, and TV services.

“Combining DIRECTV with AT&T is all about giving customers more choices for great video entertainment integrated with mobile and high-speed Internet service”, AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson said in a prepared statement.

Note that the Select Plan, which is the starting DirecTV plan, doesn’t include NFL Sunday Ticket access.
