AT&T Launches Data Perks, A Service That Offers Miniscule Amounts Of Extra

Today AT&T let us know that the program has finally gone live.

AT&T said that if customers have transferred the maximum number of megabytes for the month and still have earned data remaining in their Data Perks account, the data will be available for them to transfer at the beginning of their next bill period. Using the app, you can win small data buckets when you complete tasks such as taking surveys or purchasing goods. Unless you really play it smart to save yourself from a data overage, Data Perks doesn’t offer much.

For customers with Mobile Share Value shared data plans, AT&T said that each smartphone user on the plan can earn data with Data Perks, but that the earned data cannot be shared with other family members.

You can bank an unlimited amount of data, but you can only transfer 1000MB per month. This isn’t necessarily a bad idea as the data you earn can be used for anything rather than one service or another, and you’re stuck on a capped plan anyway. AT&T has now rolled out a different take on sponsored data as an app called Data Perks.

If you’re hurting for more data for your AT&T phone but can’t afford to upgrade your monthly allotment, Data Perks could be a nice way to add a bit more if you’ve got free time to complete the activities. On Android, you’ll need a device on 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or higher, and on iOS you’ll need a iPhone running iOS 7.0 or higher.
