Company spokesperson Seth Blom said, “We’re not announcing future wi-fi calling devices just yet”.

The Wi-Fi Calling feature enables your phone to automatically switch to a Wi-Fi connection for regular calls when cell signals are low or unavailable, and Wi-Fi is available.

The feature can be found in the Settings app by tapping “Phone” and opening the “Wi-Fi Calling” menu. From there, there are a set of steps to walk through, including entering an emergency 911 address.

If you’re an AT&T customer with an iPhone 6 or newer – you can now make calls over Wi-Fi. There is no additional charge on calls to USA numbers. Long distance global voice calls will be charged standard long distance rates. With this development, more people can take advantage of the Internet connection and be able to communicate with family and friends whether they are at work or at home. While competitors Sprint and T-Mobile opened up the Wi-Fi signal to its customers months ago, AT&T has held that a waiver from the FCC was required to properly implement the system. The carrier finally received clearance from the FCC on Tuesday. Pretty basic stuff but if you have any more questions, check out AT&T’s WiFi calling page here.
