The Eighth and Grand and Hanover Grand Avenue apartment complexes in downtown Los Angeles are the first to have access to the gigabit Internet speed service, while access is expected for the rest of Los Angeles next year.
Christmas might have come a little earlier for select AT&T (NYSE:T) users as the company spoke of its plans to expand its fast-speed broadband service to another 38 metropolitan areas across the United States in 2016. Still, he said the city is pleased to be included in the GigaPower rollout.
AT&T’s full list of current and coming GigaPower cities can be seen here. “GigaPower network to consumers and small businesses”, the company said in a statement.
“If we were not included, that would have been a disadvantage”, odd said. This launch led to a major expansion in multiple metros beginning in 2014. These kinds of speeds will allow customers to download 25 songs in less than a second, a TV show in three seconds or a favorite HD movie in less than 36 seconds.
AT&T’s promised speeds are faster than Verizon’s all-fiber-optic Fios Internet connection, which gets up to 500 Mbps “in some areas”, according to Verizon’s website. It is a step up from AT&T’s previous fiber offering, which was mostly fiber-to-the-neighbourhood (FTTN): fiber-optic cables run for most of the network, but the last mile is still old-school copper cables.
Bentley believes that the faster speeds offered via AT&T GigaPower keep businesses and clients connected as they have the access to more content on more devices.
