Earlier, NAB had already investigated the PPP leader when he was in police custody after having being given authority by an ATC.

An investigation officer argued that Dr Asim’s custody could not be transferred without first informing the court. How a district police officer (DSP) could reject a report put forth by seven senior officials of the JIT, he added.

Later on, police presented the former federal minister before an Anti-Terrorism Court with strict security.

The rangers official said that the investigation officer of the Sindh police attempted to “be his own court” and dissolved terror charges. Afterwards, the investigation process will be taken over by the NAB officials.

Doctor went on to say that Rangers were changing record at his hospital to prove that terrorists were treated on my instructions. The NAB wants to investigate him for the corruption charges, he said.

Dr Asim during the hearing told the judge that he was being wrongly framed in the case.

The PPP leader was held by Rangers for 90-days during which he has argued that he was mistreated and was made to give statements under duress, which includes admission that wanted criminals were given treatment on Dr. Asim’s orders at his hospital. Meanwhile, the accountability bureau had launched investigations against the former federal minister.

The police investigation contradicted Rangers’ accusations against Dr. Asim as Rangers’ law officer fought for Dr Hussain’s indictment and presented evidences in the court.

“I am being humiliated for the crimes I never committed, I was paraded to my hospitals handcuffed”, he stated.

The judge assured Dr Asim Hussain that he will be given a fair trial and he will not be charged the crimes he did not commit. He, along with 27 others, had been accused of facilitating terrorism by providing treatment to terrorists – militants working for political and religious groups – who were injured in shootouts with the law enforcers or with rival groups.

Dr Asim was serving as chairman of the Higher Education Commission when he was arrested.

An FIR was registered against Hussain on the request of Sindh Rangers under the charges of protecting the terrorists and receiving kickbacks for allocating contracts to his favourites while holding top government offices.
