Foltynewicz will undergo further evaluation over the next couple of days and could be released from the hospital Thursday.
Assistant general manager John Coppolella says Foltynewicz was taken to an emergency room on Friday with swelling and redness in his arm.
Now that the procedure has been completed, the Braves believe the blood clots might have been related to the bout of pneumonia that has sidelined Foltynewicz since he was unable to make his scheduled start September 2. “First and foremost is our thoughts are for his health and that he is OK”. Although an unrelated setback, Foltynewicz recently battled a case of pneumonia while already serving a stint on the 15-day disabled list.
Foltynewicz came to the Braves as part of the trade that sent Evan Gattis to Houston and started the year at Gwinnett.
