Atlanta Falcons’ Roddy White headed for surgery

Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn celebrates with players after the Falcons forced a turnover in the first quarter of a preseason NFL football game against the Tennessee Titans at the Georgia Dome.

White didn’t play Friday night, but the team didn’t specify what was wrong with his elbow.

The 33-year-old wide receiver will have minor procedure done to his right elbow tomorrow that will keep him out for the remainder of the preseason. “It’s going to be beneficial to both those guys, who haven’t had the experience that Rod has, to get in there and get more turns”.

Quinn replied “None”, when asked if there was any concern he might miss the September 14 opener against the Eagles, which means it may be a truly minor procedure. Devin Hester would also figure in the depth at the position.

With two of the four exhibition games in the bag, whose stock has risen? He also requires sporadic drainings of his knee and has been banged up in each of the last two seasons.

A review of game tape underscored “a breakdown at one spot” that led to failed plays. “Yeah, he’s somebody that we definitely want to keep looking at”. The team went through a walk-through practice Sunday to address some of those breakdowns.

As for the rest of the injury report, Quinn said he hopes defensive tackle Ra’Shede Hageman will be cleared this week after being sidelined with a concussion, and added that running backs Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman are very close to returning from hamstring issues.
