The NFL owners took a vote Tuesday afternoon and decided which cities to award with those three Super Bowls. Atlanta got the nod because its own new venue, the $1.4 billion Mercedes-Benz Stadium that should be open in 2018.

Atlanta also will stage the College Football Playoff championship game in January 2018.

The Super Bowl’s move back to Los Angeles will also give the “City of Angels” a welcome boost as it bids to host the 2024 Summer Olympics. Atlanta will host the game in 2019, followed by Miami in 2020 and Los Angeles in 2021, it was announced Tuesday at the National Football League owners meetings.

Wasserman’s comments came in a statement released by the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board. The stadium is now scheduled to open next year.

No team has ever played in a Super Bowl in its stadium, although the San Francisco 49ers (Super Bowl XIX in Stanford Stadium) and L.A. Rams (Super Bowl XIV in the Rose Bowl) played in their home markets. “I’ve been asked about it a lot when I was in Los Angeles”. Meanwhile, Miami owner Stephen Ross put up $500 million for renovations to the Dolphins’ stadium, highlighted by a partial roof. The league has been favoring cities with new or significantly renovated stadiums.

Le’Veon Bell played in only six games for the Steelers last season and only part of that was his fault.

Atlanta hosted the game in 1994 and 2000, while Miami has had it 10 times.

This will be Houston’s 2nd time hosting the Super Bowl at NRG Stadium (previously named Reliant Stadium), the last time they hosted a Super Bowl was in 2003-04, Super Bowl XXXVIII between the Patriots and Panthers, which might’ve been the best Super Bowl of all-time… It showed Ross was committed in his bid to bring Super Bowl LIV (54) here.
