An attack on a mosque in al-Ahsa in east Saudi Arabia killed three people on Friday, Saudi-owned al-Arabiya television reported.

A video on social media purportedly showed the aftermath of the attack, where several people lay still on a carpet, surrounded by broken glass.

A suicide bomber blew himself up and another attacker opened fire outside a Shiite mosque in the predominantly Sunni kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Friday, killing two people and injuring at least seven others, the state-run Saudi Press Agency reported.

Residents said security forces were exchanging gunfire with five “terrorists”.

Saudi Interior Ministry spokesman Mansour Al-Turkey told CNN Arabic there was a “terrorism attempt” at the mosque.

A suspect in the attack has been reportedly arrested, sources said. No group immediately claimed the attack. He said that it was a shooting and that worshippers stopped the attacker from detonating a suicide bomb belt.
