Later in his speech, Trump remarked that “the last thing [Clinton] wants in her whole life” is to face him in a general election. Clinton’s public comments came as President Obama was in a re-election campaign making claims al-Qaida was “on the run”.

The police report says Carpenter made an improper turn by turning into the outside lane rather than the inside line, WIS-TV reports.

Police said they have no evidence that either Carpenter, the youngest living recipient of the Medal of Honor, or the victim were under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident. Police say the pedestrian was treated at the scene for scrapes and a leg injury.

The former Marine was released on bond, but the hit-and-run is still being investigated.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on the night of December 8, Carpenter struck a pedestrian crossing Assembly Street at Blossom Street in Columbia, police said.

In a statement emailed Thursday, attorney Butch Bowers says Carpenter based that on the pedestrian’s reaction and ability to walk across the street, apparently without difficulty.

Carpenter pulled over after hitting the pedestrian but did not exit the vehicle to exchange information, or render aid to the pedestrian.

The victim then went inside the Strom Thurmond fitness center to call police and EMS. He did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The veteran received the Medal of Honor from President Barack Obama in June 2014. He lost his right eye and most of his teeth. Carpenter was severely wounded from head to toe, sustaining a depressed skull and a collapsed right lung, among a long list of other injuries.
