Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said Wednesday Robinson had been dismissed from the team.

“He did not meet my standards or expectation of what it takes to be an Auburn football player”, Malzahn said.

Tabbed as the starting RB for the Auburn Tigers this upcoming season, rising senior Jovon Robinson has been dismissed from the program.

Malzahn said he made the move Wednesday before the Tigers’ first practice of preseason camp. Multiple disciplinary issues put Williams’ career at Auburn in jeopardy previous year, but the senior wasn’t dismissed from the program until October.

As a junior, he rushed for 639 yards and three touchdowns. Peyton Barber declared for the National Football League draft after the 2015 season and Roc Thomas transferred to Jacksonville State. He followed up the bowl performance by leading the Tigers in rushing in the annual spring game with 83 yards on 10 carries, but now Auburn will have to turn to other backfield options. He had 52 carries for 208 yards and three touchdowns in 2015. Robinson’s departure may also mean playing time for one-time Baylor signee Kam Martin.
