No. 4 Auburn is the home team tonight when it takes on No. 3 Oklahoma in Game 2 of the Women’s College World Series.
Bell hit a two-run homer in the first inning and a solo homer in the fifth off Georgia starter Chelsea Wilkinson. Oklahoma would hold it’s 3-0 lead until the Tigers rallied in the top of the 7th. The long ball also snapped the the Sooners’ 31-game winning streak. The Sooners had last lost on April 2.
Auburn went on to beat Oklahoma 11-7 in eight innings on a walk-off grand slam by Emily Carosone.
During Rhodes’ fielder’s choice, Carosone was called out for running out of the base paths.
FSU looked like it had let its best scoring chance slip away in the sixth inning when Powers flied out to center with the bases loaded. Knighten’s two-run blast gives them a 9-7 lead which Jayden Chestnut protects over Auburn’s next two at-bats. Erin Miller led off the game by reaching first when Auburn’s Whitney Jordan booted a grounder, and she came around to score thanks to a Fale Aviu single.
“I don’t know why, but I had a feeling that the ball was going to go to the right side, and I knew how they swing that it was going to be hit hard”.
Auburn hopped on top in the first inning after some self-inflicted damage by the Bulldogs, who allowed the leadoff hitter to reach third on a single, wild pitch and a throwing error.
Every game has seemed to have a theme of come backs for Auburn in this year’s NCAA Tournament.
