Auburn opens season with 3 night games

ASU is playing Auburn and former Coach Gus Malzahn for the second time in four seasons. The university released details on a new amendment to the contract Malzahn signed in June 2013.

Under the terms of the new agreement, which was signed on April 1, Malzahn will make $4.725 million per year through December 31, 2020.

Still, athletic director Jay Jacobs, speaking at last week’s SEC meetings in Florida, said Malzahn would be Auburn’s coach for a “long, long time” and said he was the “the right guy for Auburn”. “Took us to two national championships; once as a coordinator, once as a head coach”.

It’s generally considered, with good reason, Gus will among the big name coaches starting the 2016 season on the “hot seat”.

The SEC Network announced Tuesday that it will televise Arkansas State’s September 10 football game at Auburn, giving the Red Wolves five contests thus far for the 2016 season that have been officially tabbed for a television broadcast.

“It’s (a) tough league, this league is tough every day”. If Malzahn were to leave Auburn before the end of the 2020, he would owe the school any outstanding payments owed to his assistants who either don’t follow him to a new employer or are not retained by the new coaching staff.

Auburn does have a buyout in this contract, $2.237 million for each year remaining on his contract, should they dismiss Malzahn during this contract.
