Auckland ranked 8th most liveable city in the world

Despite its record high property prices and traffic issues, Auckland has been ranked the world’s eighth best city in the latest liveability rankings released by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

Toronto is behind top cities Melbourne, Vienna, and Vancouver.

The EIU’s survey assesses the liveability of cities based on a number of key factors, including stability and the quality of healthcare, culture, the environment, education and infrastructure.

On stability, Dhaka scored 50 while in healthcare, the score is 29.2, culture and environment 43.3, education 41.7 and infrastructure 26.8. No city in the top tier registered an improvement in their score in the last 12 months, and changes for the 17 cities that did see a difference in score since past year were “overwhelmingly negative”, the report said.

“Sydney, for example, has fallen by four places, to move out of the ten most liveable cities, owing to a heightened perceived threat of terrorism”, the report said.

Manchester is a better place to live than London, according to an annual ranking of cities around the world.

It’s easy to see why global visitation has grown by 9.2 per cent annually.

The report said the worldwide growth in terror threats is weighing on the globe’s stability rating.

“Over the past six months 16 cities of the 140 surveyed have experienced changes in scores”.

How do I know that Melbourne is not the world’s most liveable city? On Monday the city fell from first to second place on Conde Nast’s 2016 list of the friendliest cities.

The ranking of Lagos among the least liveable cities of the world come amidst a massive revenue drive and huge infrastructural investment by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

The report owed the high rankings of Australian and Canadian cities to their wealth and medium density which can “foster a range of recreational activities without leading to high crime levels or overburdened infrastructure”.
