Remaining familiar and easily recognizable, Audi have re-styled their A3 line with subtle changes to its exterior. ― AFP-Relaxnews picNEW YORK, April 6 ― Audi is adding a new front grille and headlamps plus more aggressive lines to all model variants of its hugely popular premium compact auto. A new three-spoke steering wheel has been placed as well as an upgraded MMI system with Audi’s virtual cockpit system available as an option. The first is an all-new 1.0-litre TSFI three-cylinder engine that will put out 116PS of power and 200Nm of peak torque.
The new and improved S tronic ‘box can be used for other A3 specs that have a 2.0-litre TFSI engine, whereas other specifications use a six-speed manual transmission.
The company has also revealed that the new A3 comes with a new Audi virtual cockpit which comes with a high resolution 12.3 inch TFT display that provides a wide range of information for you whilst driving.
The cabin now offers massaging front seats for helping maintain comfort levels on longer drives and the infotainment system is capable of supporting two connected smartphones simultaneously in case the owner has different handsets for business and personal use.
The biggest change affecting the S3 is a new engine. The range consists of a three door A3, a five door A3 Sportback, a new A3 Sedan, and a new A3 Cabriolet.
The menu structure in the MMI system has been redesigned.
New driving safety features for the A3 include the semi-autonomous traffic jam assist, available for models with the S tronic gearbox and optional adaptive cruise control. The new rear cross-traffic assist warns the driver about cross traffic when slowly backing out of a perpendicular parking space, for example. Moving up, the 2.0-liter TFSI engine that powers the S3 sees its output bumped slightly to 310 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The standard, seven-inch retractable display gets the option of Navigation Plus, allowing it to connect to Google Earth and Google Street View.
The 2016 Audi A3 and S3 go on sale at Audi’s United Kingdom dealers in May. Finally, the A3 lineup includes a plug-in hybrid model called e-tron that’s powered by a 1.4-liter turbo four teamed with an electric motor, and an eco-friend model called g-tron that can run on either gasoline or Audi’s e-gas fuel.
