Audi tearjerker, ‘Puppymonkeybaby’ among Super Bowl winners

Forget football, the Super Bowl is all about the commercials.

In Audi’s spot, a depressed, aging astronaut is reminded of his joy for life by driving an Audi sports vehicle with his son to David Bowie’s “Starman”. And in a quirky Doritos ad, a fetus in a sonogram appears to rocket out of the womb to chase a bag of chips the mother angrily tossed away.

The Denver Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers during Super Bowl 50 – and there were clear winners and losers off the field, too. With 30-second ads costing up $5 million, it’s a huge gamble to advertise during the game.

Love it or hate it, Mountain Dew’s freakish ad was one of the most talked about spots of the evening. SunTrust urged people to take a breath and feel better about their financial health.

Other commercials that did well include Mini’s “Defy Labels” and Snickers’ “Marilyn”.

Three pharmaceutical ads struck a jarring tone with viewers.

Still, there were a couple of misfires. Another sought to raise awareness about “opioid-induced constipation”. People submitted entries to run during the Super Bowl in January.

The commercial shows a pregnant woman at the hospital getting an ultrasound, while her husband is watching and munching from a bag of Doritos.

O’Keefe added, “It caught you a little off guard, but it fit the brand”. “We all cracked up”. Bud Light’s only ad featured the actors Seth Rogen, Amy Schumer and Michael Peña.

The most-watched ad on YouTube so far is Hyundai’s “The Chase”, in which two hikers, chased by bears, start their Hyundai Elantra using a smartwatch and just barely escape (the bears were impressed). “This year the ads are amusing and creative”.
