GM’s top-selling Chevrolet brand ranked 20th, while the GMC brand ranked 23rd and Cadillac 24th.

Consumer Reports named the Subaru Impreza the top compact vehicle and the Subaru Forester the top small SUV. Both automakers had 100 percent of their tested models recommended by Consumer Reports.

“We value all feedback from our customers and third-party evaluators, including Consumer Reports, as it helps guide our product improvements”, said Matt Liddane, Vice President – Quality, FCA North America, said in a statement.

MIDSIZED CAR: Toyota Camry ($24,089-$32,603) The Camry’s no-fuss driving experience – great outward visibility, controls that fall easily to hand, a roomy interior – may not be the most thrilling in its class, but it’s far from plain.

There’s some good news for Volkswagen which has been grappling with a massive emissions cheating scandal, one of its brands, Audi, topping the consumer reports annual auto rankings. Brands with below-average reliability made up the bottom third of the 30 brands ranked, including Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV’s Jeep brand at number 29 and Fiat in dead last.

If you are thinking about making 2016 your year to get a new set of wheels, Consumer Reports released its list of the best cars of the year and Audi came out on top. They should be standard, it said, and brands that include them in every model will get extra credit in the rankings from now on. Still, its crash-test scores have improved over its predecessor. Its Lexus RX won best luxury SUV.

With its jumpy, firm suspension, loud cabin, and tight quarters for taller drivers, the Miata isn’t a commuter auto. The Kia Sorento was named best midsize SUV, which shows the Korean brands are achieving or exceeding the highest benchmarks in the industry, Mr Rechtin said.

MINIVAN: Toyota Sienna ($35,810-$38,201) The Sienna is super-reliable transport with all of the modern features an active, connected family would want.

The Ford F-150 pickup – already a sales champ – also wins Consumer Reports’ praise as the best in class as part of the magazine’s 2016 ratings of individual models and automotive brands. The F150 has the best predicted reliability of any domestic truck.
