After teasing and pointing to new music through a video trailer and tour dates, Melbourne natives The Avalanches have officially returned.

The Avalanches have nailed down their first studio album in 16 years for release next month. That’s the track that rapper Danny Brown confirmed years ago to have written with them, although it’s unknown at this stage whether he will still be featuring on the track.
The Avalanches have always been at work on the follow up to 2000’s well-loved Since I Left You, and we’ve heard all sorts of rumors about what the album might sound like.
MF DOOM then pops by for a verse that weaves into a sample of My Favourite Things from the musical The Sound of Music.
The band sent out messages via social media on Thursday, beginning their statement with the simple words: “We have a new album”, before apologising to fans for keeping them waiting all this time.
Another upcoming Wildflower track, Colours, sees them collaborate with Mercury Rev and Jonathan Donahue – and further tracks include appearances from Father John Misty, Warren Ellis and Toro y Moi.
Wildflower features 21 tracks and is available July 8 via Modular.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on Beats 1, band member Tony Di Blasi said: “There was so much music and so many different projects going on that, at a certain point, we realised we had to pull a record together”.
