The ceasefire “did pretty well last night, trucks are moving to maybe eight locations or more” to deliver aid, Kerry told reporters as he met Tunisia’s foreign minister in NY.
Konashenkov says Moscow still has not been able to contact the USA -backed opposition to coordinate cease-fire efforts despite Washington’s assurances.
Australia has expressed deep regret for its part in a botched airstrike in Syria that killed scores of Syrian government soldiers and endangered the fragile ceasefire in the region.
The seven-day ceasefire declared by the Syrian army expired at midnight Monday with no announcement of its extension.
However, the agreement expired at midnight on Sunday, and the United States and Russian Federation are now at loggerheads over a US-coalition led airstrike aimed at Isis militants that hit a Syrian army base over the weekend.
However, in an interview to BBC World TV, Assad’s media adviser, Bouthaina Shaaban, said: “The United States, the superpower, the greatest country in the world, makes mistakes in targeting the army?”
Russian Defence Ministry spokesman Major-General Igor Konashenkov said in an emailed statement to the AP news agency that both “terrorists and the opposition” are using the truce to “boost their forces and prepare for renewed hostilities”.
The UN said a 20-truck aid convoy destined for the east of the city with enough supplies to feed tens of thousands is still stuck in Turkey, a week after arriving at the border.
Kerry said Russian Federation was “showboating” and “grandstanding”, and that humanitarian aid must be allowed to proceed.
The Syrian army has been fighting off an offensive by the militant Islamic State (IS) group around the key Deir Ezzor airbase since previous year.
A number of leading rebel factions also warned that if the government pressed ahead with its plan to evacuate more rebel fighters from the besieged Homs suburb of al-Wair, it would “have clearly ended its commitment to any proposed truce”.
Denmark acknowledged that two of its F-16 fighter jets took part in the US -led air raid that killed dozens of Syrian soldiers over the weekend.
Syria’s Foreign Ministry said Sunday that “American” warplanes repeatedly attacked Syrian army positions the pervious afternoon.
Denmark has also confirmed that two of its F-16 fighters jets also took part in the raid, while Australia has said that its aircraft were also involved.
A fragile ceasefire between Bashar al Assad’s regime and Syrian opposition forces that was brokered by the United States and Russian Federation last week has ended, with no word of a renewed truce on Monday.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Monday that 29 children and teenagers are among those killed, as well as 17 women.
The opposition reported on Monday 254 violations by government forces and their allies since the truce started.
The statement said: “Overnight, coalition aircraft were conducting airstrikes in eastern Syria against what was believed to be a Daesh [Isis] fighting position that the coalition had been tracking for some time”.

In another development, Turkish-backed Syrian rebel forces might extend their zone of control in northern Syria and seek to capture the IS stronghold of al-Bab, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said.
