Ben Mendelsohn won the Emmy for best supporting actor in a drama series on Sunday night for his performance on Netflix’s Bloodline.
Since then he’s appeared in The Dark Knight Rises, Girls (as Jessa’s dad) and is slated to play Director Orson Krennic in the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
“Ben couldn’t make it”, actress Taraji P Henson, who announced the category, said. He was also nominated for his role during last year’s Emmy Awards and the Golden Globe Awards in January, but he lost both trophies to Dinklage.
Mendelsohn’s recognition came after Netflix announced that “Bloodline” will be airing its third and last season next year.
The win places her one ahead of TV greats Candice Bergen and Mary Tyler Moore in the category.
Lead Actress in a Comedy Series: Ellie Kemper, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt; Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep; Laurie Metcalf, Getting On; Tracee Ellis Ross, Blackish; Amy Schumer, Inside Amy Schumer; and Lily Tomlin, Grace and Frankie.
“Veep” also took home its second consecutive win in the Outstanding Comedy Series category.
“Game of Thrones” tipped to become the most decorated fictional show in history.
