Austin Shooting Leaves One Dead, Four Injured

One woman who relatives say was visiting from the San Francisco Bay Area is dead and four others were injured after gunfire erupted on Sixth Street early Sunday just as the bars were letting out. The suspect fired into a crowd on 6th Street, police said, adding that it is unknown if the shooter had a connection with any of the victims. Austin police have identified a person of interest in the shooting as Endicott McCray, 24.

Manley said police were seeking help from the public, including any video recordings, in an effort to find the shooter who is believed to be in his 20s.

Less than 10 minutes after the first incident, police said they got a call about someone being assaulted inside a nearby vehicle park.

Police also confirmed that the shooter in the first incident is still at large. Police say a suspect in one of the shootings is in custody.

According to CNN, of the four injured, two women and one man are hospitalized, but the fourth person declined medical treatment.

New details on Monday shed light on what took place before a deadly shooting in downtown Austin, early Sunday morning.

Authorities urged people to stay away from the downtown area. About a half-hour later police said the scenes of the shootings were secure. He was taken down by witnesses at the scene, and EMS took him to the hospital. No one was struck by any bullets.

Because of the close proximity of the two separate shooting incidents both in terms of timing and geography, police initially thought they were dealing with an active shooter situation.
