Austin shooting: One dead, several injured in Texas

Officials say there have been separate shooting incidents in downtown Austin and there are multiple victims.

Police had warned people to stay away from the city centre. A fifth victim, a man, refused aid, it said.

It is still unclear whether the shooter is in police custody.

Police say that the two shootings, though treated as an active shooter situation at first, are unrelated.

Local media in Austin reported that one of the shootings occurred around 2:20 a.m.at 208 East 6th Street. There was apparently a “disturbance between individuals” and that the suspect then began firing a weapon into the crowd.

A woman in her 30s has been reportedly killed in the shooting incident.

The handle, a few minutes ago added that there were two separate shooting incidents. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after onlookers, in a bold move, worked to wrestle the firearm from the shooter, and were able to successfully disarm him.

Meanwhile, several people have posted videos, claiming to be captured at the time of the mass shooting.

“There were just tons of people on Sixth Street and I see all of them jump toward the ground”, Vedamanikam told the newspaper.
