Austin strikes again as Southampton beats Swansea 1-0

Southampton striker Charlie Austin has admitted to the Mirror that he is becoming frustrated with his role at the club after coming off the bench to score the victor in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Swansea.

The striker watched his team-mates spurn a host of chances with Nathan Redmond the chief culprit, skying a sitter from eight yards.

“It’s a good feeling”, admitted the Frenchman.

“It was difficulties to score but next time he would be able to score two or three goals in the same game easier because he’s a very good player with many possibilities”.

“It’s hard when you don’t score from all those chances”.

The visitors have struggled to get going in the new campaign, managing just one win thus far which came on the opening day at Burnley, but they threatened first on the south coast when Kyle Naughton’s shot from a narrow angle forced Fraser Forster to make a save at his near post on six minutes.

“The quality of the players is obviously important, but fighting spirit is very important”.

The Wales global was hauled off before half-time of the 2-2 draw against Chelsea last weekend as manager Francesco Guidolin abandoned the experiment of playing three central defenders.

“This is not a good attitude, I will have to speak to him”, he said.

“It is natural because Charlie played all the game, and it is important now for recovery and to have a different solution on the bench”, he said. There is no problem. Shane [Long] made a very good game also, and all the offensive players. I can understand it, but it’s not a good situation.

“Strikers are credited on goals”.

“It was disappointing for us”, he told Swansea’s website.

“I am anxious because my job is my job and it is my attitude to be always ready if it’s possible”.

Guidolin did confirm that Taylor is set to return to the Swansea squad when they face Manchester City in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

“We must improve. We know we can play better, quicker and with more confidence and aggression”.

“It’s important he stays with a good attitude and to think for the next chances to finish”.
