Hot Spot replays showed a faint brush of Bailey’s gloves, while snicko registered a noise as the ball passed the gloves.

The five-match series against India gets underway at the WACA in Perth on Tuesday and is the first bilateral ODI series to be contested between the two countries in Australia, despite this being India’s 89th 50-over game in the country.

Australia has recovered from the early loss of openers David Warner and Aaron Finch to move to 2-139 at the halfway mark of their run chase.

“But at the same time, you want to follow the guidelines I’ve been given – the spirit of the game and everything”.

India’s tour of Australia will kick off with the first of five ODIs as the two sides clash at the Western Australia Cricket Association Ground in Perth. His last four ODI hundreds have all been above 150.

India lost Shikhar Dhawan for just nine but fellow opener Sharma set his mind to the task and, alongside Kohli, he set about racking up the runs. Five of his sixes came over long on. Dhoni’s men were beaten in Bangladesh before a second string side went on to win in Zimbabwe.

The 28-year-old batsman, who smashed 13 boundaries and seven sixes, did not let the Aussie bowlers to settle and smashed them to nearly all parts of the ground. “That’s exactly whay I did”, Rohit told bcci.tv. However that does not seem to be the focus this time round as both the teams are hoping to get in shape and find form ahead of the World Twenty20. Personally for me it was important that I get off my team to a good start and then carry on the momentum and that’s exactly what I did and it was good to create a big partnership with Kohli. When you are making runs you should ensure you make as many as you can – that will benefit the team too. “The way he started batting, it felt that he will play good and he displayed good cricket”, Gurunath told ANI here.

Rohit’s innings in numbers – 4 150-plus innings recorded by Rohit Sharma.

Rohit Sharma made an unbeaten 171-the highest score against Australia in Australia, per ESPN Cricinfo’s Daniel Brettig-as India amassed 309 for three after choosing to bat first.

Sharma achieved the feat in 19 innings, eclipsing the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara who both took more than 20 innings to do so. His average of 68.46 is the best by any batsman with 500 or more runs against Australia.

While it was another heartbreaking end to a Rohit century that ended in a losing cause (his T20 hundred and ODI hundred against SA were scored in defeats), Australian skipper Smith again turned out to be India’s nemesis pacing his innings to perfection.
