Australia drop Glenn Maxwell for ODI series in Sri Lanka
Maxwell, Australia’s reigning one-day worldwide player of the year was the surprise omission from the 15-man squad named Sunday for five ODIs that will follow the current three-test series which Sri Lanka leads 1-0 after its 106-run win on Saturday.

The other changes to the 16-man squad that won the ODI tri-series in the Caribbean are the inclusion of batsman Shaun Marsh, who missed that campaign due to the birth of his first child, as well as Test squad allrounder Moises Henriques.
Maxwell must have got a hint of things to come after he was overlooked for the Sri Lanka Tests despite his potential use as a spinner, even after Steve o’Keefe was ruled out of the tour with an injury. “I got some really honest feedback which was good to hear but there are also things I need to work on”. Australia are scheduled to play five ODIs followed by three Tests in Sri Lanka and did not have a positive start, losing the opening Test. Maxwell has been one of the crucial members of Australian team in limited-over formats but has not been in his best of forms lately.
While insisting that he is determined to prove his worth in the squad, Maxwell said that the constant demands of the global schedule resulted in him losing focus of the little things in his training. Australia opted to rope in uncapped Jon Holland and named Maxwell as his replacement in the Australia A side which will take on South Africa A in two first-class matches.
“Glenn has too many games where he doesn’t contribute with the bat”.
“I’ve shown [my value to the side] in different times”.
“We’ve asked Glenn to go away and focus on consistent performances for Victoria and Australia A to earn his way back into the Australian side”.
“When you have got as much talent as that, you should be able to play all forms”, Marsh said.
The five-match ODI series between Sri Lanka and Australia will get underway on 21st August with the first match at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. And on last ODI’s Sri Lanka and Australia will be on the field at 4 September. Scott Boland and Travis Head also dropped with this 27-year-old star.

Henriques makes his return to the side having last played for Australia against England in Hobart in early 2015.
