Countries around the world used similar displays to show solidarity with France following a series of terrorist attacks in Paris Friday night.
NY lit the one World Trade Center, the tallest building in America, in red, white and blue – a powerful symbol of U.S. friendship and support for the French. So, if we can’t source one, we are going to make one.
Acting on a suggestion from journalist Mike Carlton, New South Wales premier Mike Baird tweeted the decision to light up the Opera House sales.
However, the lights on the Eiffel Tower in Paris were turned off to mourn the loss of lives.
WORLD leaders stood united with France yesterday and pledged their support to the shaken country as the full horror of the Paris terrorist attacks emerged.
In a separate post, he wrote: “Tonight the sails of the Opera House will be lit in the blue, white & red of the French flag”.
“This is a fight between extremists, criminals and people who believe in the fundamental values of freedom and the respect for human rights”, he told AFP.
The Earth is bleeding blue, white and red in honour of the tragedy in France.
Other landmarks across the world were lit up in the colors of France, including One World Trade Center in NY, Wembley Stadium in London and the CN Tower in Toronto.
Ms Attias said the people in her circle of French friends agreed this wave of terror attacks would be a turning point for France, for better or worse.
In a statement sent Friday evening, SFPD says that “The San Francisco Police Department is aware of the incidents that occurred in France and we are following the situation”.
