A large crocodile preying on cattle in Australia´s Northern Territory was caught by wildlife rangers using a baited trap to snare the deadly 4.3 metre reptile in a water hole.

Wildlife officers had laid a trap in a waterway near where the “saltie” was reported to have been taking cattle at the station in the island continent’s tropical north.

“It was causing a ruckus and was a danger to people in the area”, Matt Phillips of the Northern Territory Police said. They say the it was trapped on Sunday but was “too angry” to be removed until Wednesday. At one point, it nearly managed to wriggle free of its captors.

Mark Berry called the capture “a bit of an unorthodox extraction” as the crocodile could be seen flailing about and almost broke free as crews pulled it ashore. “He’s now been secured and will be taken into a green program in Darwin”, a city on the northern coast.

“He got a little bit away from us, but we ended up getting hold of him”.
