Australia Wins First Day-Night Test By 3 Wickets

81 per cent claimed that all Test matches at the ground should be day-nighters, while two-thirds also said they would be more likely to attend twilight matches than day-time fixtures.

The three-wicket win was confirmed as Siddle punched one past point off Tim Southee, Starc hobbling through for the two runs required to give Australia a 2-0 win in the series.

Trent Boult of New Zealand celebrates as Peter Nevill of Australia is caught out by BJ Watling of New Zealand during day three of the Third Test match between Australia and New Zealand at Adelaide Oval on November 29, 2015 in Adelaide, Australia.

“I think after the week we had in Perth, to come back and watch the Test match [with a lot more wickets falling] – which is pretty much what I did – was exciting”.

It was the first time since 1993 that an Adelaide Test had not produced an individual century. The recently revamped Adelaide Oval was a good laboratory for the test case at the end of Spring in South Australia, which is generally dry and mild.

Australian captain Steve Smith says he didn’t risk worsening his injury.

Australia were 11 runs away from victory but they lost another wicket before getting across the line as Peter Nevill edged behind to become Boult’s fifth scalp. It was most pronounced at night when the pink ball swung its hardest and was tougher for batsmen to see under the lights.

Players and purists regard Tests as the pinnacle of the game but their enthusiasm for five-day matches has been unmatched in the terraces of most cricket nations for years.

Josh Hazlewood completed career-best figures of 6-70 with the pink ball to dismiss the Black Caps for 208 in their second innings, setting Australia a target of 187.

Smith’s departure signalled the arrival of Shaun Marsh at a crucial stage in the Australian innings and with victory not assured.

Findings released on Tuesday revealed that there was a firm backing among supporters for the controversial adaptation of the traditional Test format – played with a pink ball and late sessions under floodlights. “It was fantastic for Shaun to get an opportunity”. Just before Smith fell, David Warner’s streaky innings ended when he edged to slip off Doug Bracewell for 35.

But top score he did, and as a result, he now has a place in cricket history.

But Australia took five wickets in the second session and finished off New Zealand within nine overs after the first dinner interval in Test cricket.
