Australian kidnapped in Kabul

Kidnappers in Afghanistan have abducted two professors, one American and one Australian, according to reports.

The professors from the American University of Afghanistan were abducted on Sunday, reportedly by gunmen dressed in the uniforms of Afghan security forces.

Yahoo7 has contacted the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for confirmation of the academic’s kidnapping.

An Indian aid worker kidnapped in Kabul in June was rescued in July and returned to India.

“Due to privacy considerations, we have no information to offer”, an official told Voices of America.

The American university is a non-profit, co-ed institution with more than 1700 students, according to its website.

‘The abduction was confirmed by Kabul police chief Abdel Radhman Rahimi, ‘ the news site reported.

Afghanistan remains locked in a violent insurgency and Western embassies typically warn their citizens against all but essential travel in the country, citing threats of attack and kidnapping.

Three days earlier, the Taliban claimed responsibility for injuring six tourists and their Afghan driver in an attack in west Afghanistan.
