Despite Rio organizers deploying 630 people to work around the clock to ensure that the 3600 apartments in the Athlete Village will be ready in less than 2 weeks, more nations are expressing concern and dissatisfaction with the cleanliness and safety of the 2016 Olympic Games accommodations. Arriving in the coastal city ahead of the August 5 start of the first Olympics to be held in South America, Thomas Bach said every host city experienced last-minute difficulties.
Australia’s Olympic delegation, which refused to move into its Rio apartments due to a spate of problems, has insisted the kangaroo at their lodgings is not a dig at the city’s mayor. Eleven weightlifters, including six medallists, produced positive samples in the second wave of doping retests from the 2012 London Olympics, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) said yesterday.
Rio 2016 tells Around the Rings 20 of 31 buildings have been cleared to be inhabited after problems when the Olympic Village opened July 24.
“We got together with the Australian team last Friday, I came to the village and I saw that things were not well and this was the worst feeling”, said Paes. Extra maintenance staff and over one thousand cleaners have been engaged to fix the problems and clean the Village but the faults, particularly the plumbing issues have not been resolved.
The World Health Organization has previously said there is a very low risk of Zika – now present in dozens of countries in the Caribbean and Latin America – spreading internationally as a result of people traveling to and from the Olympics.
By Monday afternoon, Chiller said Australia’s delegation was pleased with progress made at Olympic Village.
Tancred said Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes would hand the team an official key on Wednesday. “It’s about time that the female athletes were given the credit and the recognition and the accolades that they so richly deserve”.

The Rio Olympic Village is near the Olympic Park in Barra da Tijuca. Outlet G1 reported that Swedish athletes took a taxi to hotels after seeing the lack of cleanliness in their village accommodations. Those who have moved-in represent 120 countries. But Brazil wouldn’t be the first nation to pull off an Olympic Games by the skin of their teeth.
