In the Kabul incident, it was not known who carried out the kidnappings, and the Taliban have not claimed responsibility. They are believed to be employees of the university. The two abducted are both men, he said.
ABC America reports the abduction has been confirmed by Kabul police chief Abdel Rahman Rahimi.
An Australian professor and his USA colleague have been kidnapped at gunpoint from outside a university in Kabul, local police said.
Kidnapping is a major problem in Afghanistan, affecting mostly Afghans although a number of foreigners have also been abducted in recent years.

University staff have suffered before in Afghanistan’s violence.
An official from the university told NBC News that the campus has been closed for the day amid the ongoing situation.
The United States in May warned its citizens in Afghanistan of a “very high” kidnapping risk after an American narrowly escaped abduction in the heart of Kabul. At least two other foreigners were kidnapped in Kabul a year ago and later released. The whereabouts of Katherine Jane Wilson, an Australian aid worker who was kidnapped in Kabul last April, remain unknown.

Sediqqi said that kidnappers in all the Kabul cases, including Monday’s, had been wearing military uniforms, establishing a pattern and hinting at some form of organized gang activity.
