It was reportedly “teen night” at the club.
A precise number of the injured isn’t yet known – it’s believed that some victims went to hospitals other than Lee Memorial. There were other victims injured but they left the scene on their own and were treated at area hospitals.
The post also said the shooting happened when “the club was closing and parents were picking their children up”. The post from the Fort Myers nightclub says armed security had been posted at the event inside and outside.
A post on the Club Blu Facebook page Monday said its owners were deeply sorry for everyone involved.
One man said a close friend was at the club at the time of the shooting. All victims were transported from the scene by Lee County Emergency Medical Services to area hospitals.
The attack comes less than two months after another Florida nightclub shooting that killed 49 people and wounded 53.
One wrote: “You got this Tim!” and another said: “You not gone die god got you 100 per cent pull through I’m praying for you”. All others were treated and released.
Police have detained three people for questioning.
The shooting in Fort Myers comes a month after a shooting at a nightclub in Orlando, Florida, the deadliest mass shooting in USA history.
FMPD said Ortiz Avenue is safe at this time, but the roadway will remained closed as the investigation continues. Witnesses described the scene as “a mad house” to local media, where people ran away and then desperately called out for loved ones.
Multiple law enforcement units have responded to at least three locations in Fort Myers after reports of shots fired.
The two teens killed were 14-year-old Sean Archilles and 18-year-old Ste’Fan Strawder, police said.
