Using sonar technology and retracing old leads, a dive team recovered a vehicle submerged in almost 30 feet of water in Lake Rhodiss. However, the authorities do not suspect foul play.

The auto matched the description of the vehicle belonging to a man who was reported missing to the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office on February 19, 1972.

Caldwell County deputies said that they believe the remains of Amos Shook were found in Lake Rhodhiss. The remains have been sent to a medical examiner to be identified. Shook was in his early 40s when he was reported missing in 1972, WSOC reports. Information as to what was found in the auto wasn’t made available, and investigators are still sifting through the mud-filled vehicle.
