A person was shot and killed, and a K9 officer was stabbed and killed in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, reported CBS Pittsburgh. He says officers chased the suspect along the transit busway that leads from downtown Pittsburgh into the city’s eastern suburbs.
37, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident on Whitney Avenue after 4 p.m.
Wilkinsburg Councilwoman Vanessa McCarthy-Johnson, who lives near the incident, said she heard a Port Authority police officer telling residents to make sure their children were inside.
A memorial service for Aren was tentatively scheduled for Thursday morning at the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial on Pittsburgh’s North Shore.
The suspect turned his knife on the 5-year-old German Shepherd, stabbing the police pooch multiple times and killing him. At that time, K-9 Officer Aren was released and he was stabbed by Kelley Jr.
The Allegheny County police will be investigating the suspect’s death.
The police dog was fatally stabbed in the head by Kelley Jr. who was then shot multiple times, police said.
Aren’s handler was identified as Port Authority officer Brian O’Malley.

Two of the suspects fled on foot and the third, who was armed with a knife, refused repeated commands from the two officers to put down the knife. About 15 minutes later, officers found Kelley Jr., who was carrying a knife. The suspect was transported to a local hospital and died a short time later from the gunshot wounds he received.
