Authorities: No injuries reported in plant explosion, fire

The owner of the plant, Enterprise Products Partners of Houston, said it was investigating the cause of the fire at its processing facility it Pascagoula, Miss.

Authorities told WLOX two employees were inside the plant during the explosions, but they were safe in an explosion-proof room.

According to Jackson County Emergency Services Director, Earl Etheridge residents should not be concerned about potential backlash their property or environment would face.

The plant was recently sold to a minority owner. It is owned by Enterprise.

Vibrations from the explosion were felt as far as 10 miles away from the plant on Stennis Boulevard.

No injuries were reported and no evacuations were under way, the Pascagoula Police Department said. He said the plant’s processing area was heavily damaged.

Offshore company LLOG said it was in the process of shutting its Delta House floating production system in the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday, a spokesman said.

As of Tuesday morning, the flames had diminished and the remaining embers are vapors burning off, according to Vice-President of Public Relations for Enterprise Products Partners, Rick Rainey.

Broom, who was reached by phone near the scene, said firefighters were working early Tuesday to put out the fire.

The plant is comprised of three trains with approximately 1.5 billion cubic feet per day of capacity.

The Mississippi plant removes the liquid from natural gas and ships it to utilities along the East Coast, Rainey said.
