Authorities retrieve weapon from mall shooting

Police are searching for one shooter and are sweeping stores in the Cascade mall, Sgt Mark Francis said about the shooting in Burlington, about 100 kms north of Seattle. The suspect was described as wearing black clothing and carrying a rifle.

Michelle Fuller said her niece was in the mall and heard the shots, and then led people to a nearby bathroom to hide.

At a vigil for the victims Saturday morning at Maiben Park in Burlington, Kelly Couture recalled what she heard as she left the mall’s Target store Friday night. He was then seen entering Macy’s about 10 minutes later with a rifle and fired multiple times.

Authorities have mounted a large manhunt for the shooter but he has not yet been located. “Stay indoors, stay secure”, Francis said at a news conference.

Authorities did not say how the suspect may have obtained the weapon – whether he retrieved it from outside or picked it up in the mall – but they believe he acted alone. Can anyone confirm this pic is legit?

The fifth mass shooting in Washington this year sent shoppers running out of the mall and plunged a small town into grief. Law enforcement officers first said four people were fatally shot, then lowered the toll to three before raising it again. So they’re still interviewing witnesses and trying to get a good idea of exactly what action to take next.

The authorities believe there was only one gunman.

The public is asked to stay away from the area of a mall and also to avoid the I5 in the vicinity of State Hwy. 20.

Her sister, Evangelina Lara, told The Seattle Times the teenager had been pronounced dead by police at 2am on Saturday.

Police said they are not clear on a motive, but have gotten several calls of people claiming to be the shooter, which they are hashing out.

Stephanie Bose, an assistant general manager at Johnny Carino’s Italian restaurant near the Macy’s store at the mall, said she immediately locked the doors after hearing about the shooting from an employee’s boyfriend. “Stay close to your friends and loved ones as we await more information and, hopefully, news of the suspect’s capture”.
