Four people were killed today in a shooting at a mall in the U.S. state of Washington with police searching for at least one gunman described as a “Hispanic male”. Some people didn’t know where to go.
The unidentified male victim died on Saturday morning at a Seattle hospital after a gunman opened fire at the Cascade Mall in Burlington, Washington state.
The shooting occurred at Cascade Mall in Burlington, Washington, before 7 p.m. local time.
A Washington State Patrol spokesman said there was one shooter, a male, armed with a “rifle-like” gun.
The mall was located about 70 miles (110 kilometers) north of Seattle, the biggest city in the state.
The names of those who died were not immediately released and it is unclear if there were any other victims.
Stephanie Bose, an assistant general manager at Johnny Carino’s Italian restaurant near the Macy’s store, said she immediately locked the doors to the restaurant after hearing about the shooting from an employee’s boyfriend.
Tari Caswell told the Skagit Valley Herald she was in the women’s changing rooms at Macy’s department store when she heard ‘what sounded like four balloons popping’.
Brandi Montreuil, who was at the mall, said she was at the movies when they were told to leave.
“Out of nowhere I just hear somebody yell and then after that, I turn around and just look at the Macy’s and I just hear shots”, Patino told CNN affiliate KOMO.
The police were alerted about the incident at 6:58 p.m. local time (0058 GMT).
Francis added that the emergency medical service team had entered the shopping mall “to attend to injured”.
Gov. Jay Inslee issued a statement Friday night saying, “Tragedy has struck in Washington tonight”. The entire mall is being treated as a crime scene, and anyone with a vehicle in the parking lot was told to pick it up on Saturday. We urge residents to heed all safety and detour warnings.
Spokeswoman Ayn Dietrich-William said the Federal Bureau of Investigation has no information suggesting any additional planned attacks in Washington.

On Sept. 17, a stabbing at a Minnesota mall resulted in 10 people injured but no deaths. Last Saturday evening, an assailant at a mall in St. Cloud, Minn. stabbed nine people before he was shot dead by an off-duty police officer.
