24 year-old Deeds was booked into the Nassau County jail in Florida just before 3 a.m. Deeds was held without bond on an out-of-state felony warrant.

When Smith got to the location, authorities say he got out of his patrol vehicle to investigate and had a conversation with Deeds. It lies about 55 miles southeast of Macon.

“Agents and police are actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the shooter”.

While on patrol, Smith encountered the subject and exited his auto. He is survived by his three children, Dutton said.

Smith had worked at the Eastman Police Department for five years. Deeds shot Smith once and the officer returned fire, according to police.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said it was leading the investigation into the death of Patrolman Tim Smith, 31. He was taken to a local hospital where he died.

Georgia State Patrol is on the search for a suspect responsible for the murder of an officer.

In Marietta, Officer Davis, a 10-year veteran of the force, was out of surgery Sunday morning and recovering. Both suspects were eventually arrested, Wallace said. Leeper says deputies searched the auto and found Royheem Deeds in the trunk. The wounded suspect was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. No arrests had been made as of 9 a.m. Sunday.
