Autism Rate Holds Steady in US — CDC Report
“There is data and evidence that … children who have been identified early and referred for treatment have better outcomes than children who were identified later and referred for treatment”, she said. “To finally know, ‘OK, this is what’s going on with our son'”.

The lack of change is noteworthy because autism estimates had been steadily increasing.
Dr. Andrew Adesman, chief of developmental and behavioral pediatrics at Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park, NY, said the new report offered some good news. Boys are 4.5 times more likely to be identified with autism than girls, with rates of one in 42 among boys and one in 189 among girls.
New Jersey has seen a surge of 12% in new autism cases over a period of two years, federal health officials said on Thursday. Open to parents of adult children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, community business leaders interested in inclusive employment and housing, service providers interested in liaising with community members to create an action plan to address regional issues. New Jersey’s increase was second only to Wisconsin, which reported a 16 percent increase from 2010 to 2012, according to CDC data.
Carol Povey, Director of the National Autistic Society’s Centre for Autism, said: “This important study shows that professionals still aren’t picking up the signs of autism early enough”. A study of the prevalence of autism in Iowa eight year olds during the 2009-2010 school year found Iowa’s rate was 1 in 767, the lowest in the nation, approximately half that of Oklahoma, number 49.
Utah is now the fourth-highest autism prevalence state out of the 11 participating states. “It’s too soon to tell whether the percentage of children with autism is stabilizing”.
Minister for Equality, Samantha Sacramento, said: “This Government has made considerable progress in understanding the needs of autistic individuals and there is a continued desire and commitment to continue to develop this understanding and improve the services that we deliver to the autistic community”. Majority of the children, 64%, were not diagnosed with autism or any other development disorder.
Other studies with different survey methodologies have found similar autism rates.
The national rate remains the same as it was in 2014: 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder.
Most people are completely ignorant about autism, doctors say.
“Numbers report a lot of data, but we are talking about children”.
The results are published today in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders.
