According to the New York Daily News, Ewing kidnapped his wife from her home on Blockhouse Run Road in West Finley Township, Pennsylvania, at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Monday.
He was out of jail on $100,000 bond when he committed the kidnapping and he was under house arrest for having held his wife captive against her will after he allegedly found text messages on her phone that he did not like.
The husband had been free on bond while awaiting trial on charges he abducted and beat his wife while holding her captive for almost two weeks earlier this summer when he allegedly kidnapped her again Tuesday.
Tierne Ewing managed to escape when her husband ordered her to withdraw money from a credit union. She also had staples closing a cut on her head a home remedy, not hospital-administered that she told police was caused when her husband hit her with a wooden gun stock.
Bank officials called police, who found Kevin Ewing in the parking lot with a rifle, handgun and a knife, the complaint said.
According to CBS Pittsburgh, late on Tuesday night, law enforcement officials swarmed the area. The office said an autopsy is pending as Ewing remains on a ventilator until a decision about organ donation is made.
Police were called and took Kevin Ewing into custody. The spokeswoman did not release any further details about the case.
Prosecutors asked for the judge to reconsider due to the seriousness of the charges – but the judge allowed him to remain free on the condition that he wore an ankle bracelet.
The newspaper reported the judge had ordered that the bracelet have Global Positioning System capabilities to track Ewing’s movements, though adult probation officials have told The Associated Press the device was only programmed to alert authorities if Ewing left his home.
He then cut off his electronic ankle bracelet and handed it to his mother before leaving, she told police. Kevin Ewing reportedly forced Tierne Ewing to pack clothing and food in bags.
Tierne’s father, Richard Kopko, told reporters his daughter was “scared to death” of her husband. Ewing allegedly held her against her will for 12 days, pistol-whipping her and burning her with a metal hot dog stick. His attorney said he didn’t know where Ewing would have gone but was hoping for a good outcome.

State police warned Tuesday that Ewing should be considered armed and unsafe. The barn was located in West Finley Township, close to the West Virginia state line. State police and South Strabane officers surrounded the barn near where a vehicle owned by the woman and her husband had been found. He was scheduled for an October 12 formal arraignment. Earlier this summer, he had held her captive for nearly two weeks. The Washington County coroner hasn’t formally ruled on her death.
