Automakers report mixed US sales results in September

Despite the drop, Ford said September was the best month of the year for F-Series retail sales. Ford’s ATP rose $1,100 in September from a year ago, versus a $400 gain for the overall industry, the company said. Nevertheless, SAAR for September was higher than 16.97 million units in Aug 2016.

Still, automakers continue to sell cars at higher prices.

Analysts expect a decline in U.S. sales for General Motors Co. Among the six major American and Japanese automakers, only Toyota Motor Corporation TM and Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. It was the fourth month of year-over-year sales declines so far this year.

That has automakers pushing harder for sales.

Toyota estimates that the US auto industry is on track to sell about 17.3 million new cars and trucks this year.

General Motors, Fiat Chrysler and Ford Motor posted US sales declines in September, as the Detroit Three edged analyst expectations.

Despite an increase in sales incentives, US auto sales took a slight dip in September, but the tally was not as bad as what had been projected by analysts.

Among the losers, GM’s sales edged 0.6% lower to 249,795 amid continued drop in fleet sales and falling pickup sales, while Ford declined skidded 8.1% to 203,444 units.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles reported a 3 percent year-on-year rise for the month to 196,756 vehicles sold, bringing year-to-date sales up 4 percent over the same period in 2015.

– Toyota Motor Co.’s sales rose 1.5 per cent to 197,260. For GM, Edmunds.com projected a sales decline of 0.7%, Kelley Blue Book projected a decline of 1.7% and TrueCar predicted a decline of 0.5%. The company said a planned 36-percent cut in sales to low-profit rental auto companies was partly to blame. Ford Motor has had two very weak months in a row now, and it will depend on the 4th quarter to turn the ship around, which, frankly, I think will not happen. Sales of the hybrid Prius fell 23 percent, a victim of low gas prices.

Ford-brand sales declined 8.3% in September vs. like 2015, on sales of 190,702 vehicles. Both the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger turned in double-digit%age increases in September while the Jeep Grand Cherokee posted an 18% sales gain.

Many analysts have provided their estimated foresights on Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. Earnings, with 6 analysts believing the company would generate an Average Estimate of $0.38. In the nine months ended Sep 2016, sales inched up a mere 0.3%.

Toyota Vice President Bill Fay said a lot of automakers boosted incentives in September to clear out their 2016 models and make way for the 2017 models. The stock touched an intraday high of $6.45 and the buying power remained strong till the end.
