A GoFundMe page to raise money for Ciara’s mother and to fund anti-domestic violence programs at the local school district described the little girl “a loving vibrant 12 year old who’s life was cut short far too early”.
A 12-year-old girl was shot and killed by a Pennsylvania state constable during an apartment eviction on Monday, January 11th, WHTM is reporting. Ciara was pronounced dead at the scene, the website reported. The Perry County district attorney is reviewing the shooting.
Bill Stoessler, spokesman for the Commonwealth Constables Association of which Steele is a member, said Steele was “shattered” at Ciara’s death and had voluntarily suspended himself from the force.
Police said there was an altercation and shots were fired at the Pfautz Apartments on Rebecca Drive around 10:05 a.m.
State police and a coroner expect to release the names of the victims in a shooting that occurred during an eviction at a central Pennsylvania apartment complex. Authorities said the condition of the man in the hospital is unknown. WGAL reports Donald Meyer is facing charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person. Steele and Meyer exchanged words briefly before Meyer “leveled” the rifle at Steele, according to police. A preliminary hearing is scheduled January 15.
“She’s not going to handle it very well”, she told the station. “It’s terrible, absolutely heartbreaking”, a neighbor of the Meyers said to WHTM-TV of the girl. “I just hope she didn’t suffer”.

“Procedures are in place across the district to address potential impacts of this incident to our students and staff”, superintendent Kent Smith said in a statement.
