The company announced its special line of dolls aiming to inspire young girls last spring.

DuVernay’s doll was created as a part of Barbie’s Sheroes Collection that included actresses Emmy Rossum and Kristin Chenoweth, and a 5-year-old fashion designer.

In April, the company released one-of-a-kind Barbie dolls based on six women for Variety magazine’s Power of Women luncheon.

Director Ava DuVernay attends the 22nd Annual ELLE Women in Hollywood Awards at Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills on October 19, 2015 in Los Angeles, California. “Started by a female entrepreneur and mother, this brand has a responsibility to continue to honor and encourage powerful female role models who are leaving a legacy for the next generation of glass ceiling breakers”.

Mattel is one of the biggest toymakers in the world, popular known for making Barbie dolls.

But DuVernay’s fans on Twitter – where she has 140,000 followers – asked Mattel to mass produce hers and the toymaker has agreed to make some available to the public, DuVernay tweeted Sunday.
