Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon provided a one-two punch at the end of the first period against the Canadiens on Saturday, scoring twice in 13 seconds to extend Colorado’s lead to 3-0.

At 18:25 of the first period in Montreal on Saturday night, the Canadiens won a faceoff in the defensive zone, but they couldn’t control the puck.

Grigorenko, with his first for the Avalanche, was left alone in front to take a pass from Duchene and score only 3:26 into the game. With Andrei Markov closing in, MacKinnon flipped a backhand shot … high, glove side, beating Condon for the second time in 13 seconds. Tokarski stopped Mackinnon’s shot from the top of the right circle, but an unattended Duchene was there waiting to the goalie’s left and roofed it for his team-leading eighth of the season.
Landeskog will also sit out in Toronto.
With Alexei Emelin out with a lower body injury, Greg Pateryn saw his first action of the season for Montreal.
Alexander Semin makes his return to the Habs lineup tonight after being a healthy scratch for the last seven games.
