Average US gas price drops 14 cents in two weeks -Lundberg

The current gas price is 16 cents per gallon under its year-ago point.

Lundberg says the price drop may soon end as crude costs start going up again.

In Maine, which saw the biggest drop at almost 5.4 cents per gallon, the average price is $1.92.

Nationwide, the average price for a gallon of regular gas sits at $1.82 per gallon, 20 cents lower than the same time a year ago.

Des Moines- $2.00/g, down 4.7 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.05/g.

Talking to CBS Detroit late past year, industry analyst Patrick DeHann of GasBuddy.com said the break at the pump (an average price under $2 since last November) would stick around a little longer in 2016 – perhaps through Valentine’s Day. “Gasoline inventories sitting at 245 million barrels are the highest the US has seen since March 1990”, he said.

The price of a gallon of gasoline in MA has fallen another 3 cents in the past week, and is now down 22 cents in the past seven weeks.

The average price from crowdsourced reports in Penobscot County was $1.89 per gallon Monday, near the lowest county average in the state. “The low price of crude remains the primary contributor to discounts at the pump, making it cheaper to produce gasoline”.
