Avril Lavigne Returns to Stage for Special Olympics Opening Ceremony
Avril Lavigne has given her first performance in over a year after performing her latest track “Fly” at the US Special Olympics opening ceremony on Saturday night (July 25).

While the performance was all for a special cause, it clearly marks a powerful milestone for Lavigne, who has been recovering from Lyme disease.
“It has been a hard year fighting through Lyme disease for me and I am so happy to have made it on stage tonight for the first performance in a year”, she continued on Instagram Saturday.
“Honestly, I felt very, very loved”, she said in an interview with “Good Morning America”. The singer, most known for her pop-rock anthems “Sk8er Boi” and “Boyfriend”, was diagnosed with the disease previous year. “All proceeds go to support the Special Olympics“. “This went on and off for a month”, she said. “And it sounds silly saying it, but I really truly did feel my fans through the process”.
A source told The Sun that Emily won’t be interested in any possible advances as she’s already in a relationship with Alex Roberts, who she’s been dating for five months.
She added, “For me, it’s like a second shot at life. I’m just really grateful to know that, like, I will make [a] 100 percent recovery”.
Lavigne is now working on her sixth studio album, which will serve as the follow-up to her 2013 self-titled collection.
