Incidentally, Swinton artfully deflected criticism during the Comic-Con panel that her character “whitewashes” what was originally an Asian character.

Meanwhile, Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson was also confirmed to play Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel in the studio’s first stand-alone female sole film.

Wonder Woman is being directed by Patty Jenkins (Monster) and stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen and Robin Wright.

Warner Brothers – still smarting from the lukewarm reception for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – presented a star-studded lineup ahead of Marvel’s showcase later in the day.

Director Scott Derrickson said “Doctor Strange” comics brought “a whole new voice” to the Marvel universe. Thus, he must embark on an arduous journey of healing; encountering Tilda Swinton’s Ancient One – essentially normal Tilda Swinton but bald – who introduces unusual to the world of mystic arts. For a lot of us here at Comic-Con, movies are our life and I can’t imagine what it’s like to grow up and not see yourself, not see your face up there in the lead characters. It makes sense that upcoming movies will explore the cosmic side of the universe as we get closer to Infinity War, and that all starts with Doctor Strange. With a large, already-announced cast including Tilda Swinton as the androgynous Ancient One, it’s quite hard to tell where Bratt fits in.

Early footage was shown of teen comedy Spider-Man: Homecoming, starring Tom Holland and following 15-year-old Peter Parker hiding his superhero alter-ego as he struggles with homework, girls and puberty. Due out this fall, it is the second film to be released from Marvel’s Phase 3, following Captain America: Civil War.

We came, we saw, we waited in line, and then we conquered.
