Washington State Patrol Trooper Russ Winger tweeted about the crash Friday morning; three cars crashed near Laird Road, which is west of Port Angeles.

According to Washington State Police, Rygaard, 45, veered to avoid hitting a slowing vehicle in front of him when he hit another auto coming from the opposite direction.

Rygaard rose to fame when he joined History’s Ax Men in 2009.

All nine seasons of Ax Men are available for streaming on History’s web site. The program follows the work of several logging crews in the second-growth forests of Northwestern Oregon, Washington and Montana and the rivers of Louisiana and Florida.
